What happened?
On September 29, 2009, "a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck the Pacific near American Samoa, triggering towering tsunami waves that gushed over the island and leaving at least 22 people dead and over 50 injured. The wave came onshore and washed out people's homes and two or three villages have been badly damaged." With so much destruction, many people had little or no access to life essentials like food, fresh water, clothing, and shelter.
