Instruction
To complete this learning module, please view the introductory video, read one of the featured articles, and read at least one other article found on the “additional resources” page. Afterwards, please complete the “Practice” activity and answer the “Reflection” questions.
In order for 1 on 1 meetings to be productive, each meeting needs to meet specific goals. The preparation that precedes a meeting is extremely important and plans must be well laid and carefully detailed if the meeting is to be successful. Before you step into the room for the scheduled meeting, you should have organized your thoughts about things that are going to be discussed.

As the leader, you can't always do things yourself. One way to accomplish more is by working as a team and delegating tasks to others. Having stewardship meetings on a regular basis will help to follow-up and assist others with their tasks. Whether it is once a week or once a month, use this time to mentor and coach those you supervise with their tasks and responsibilities. Ask them if they are having any difficulties and how you can help. Ask them what they are enjoying about their job and have they set any goals. (read more)

Reflection
Respond to the following questions:
- Think of a particularly effective mentor and/or coach you have had in college or high school. Describe why he or she was so effective in helping you. (Be specific.)
- How is coaching similar to counseling? How are they different?
- How can you tell if you are being effective in helping others? When is a coaching or counseling job completed? When is a mentoring job completed?
- Which helping behaviors do I need to improve on the most? What specific things will I do, when will I do them, and how will I know I succeeded?
